As part of the celebrations of the PDMRO 50th anniversary some bright spark decided it would be nice to go on a bike ride and visit all of the rescue bases in the Peak District in one day. Unfortunately the PDMRO anniversary coincides with the Tour de France visiting our part of the world, so the gentle ride between bases just had to include the part of Stage 2 which ventures onto “our patch”.
The result is a route of about 150kms; starting in Uppermill (OMRT) going up the Isle of Skye Road to WMRT’s base, doubling back to ride Holme Moss (where the world’s finest cyclists will battle it out just a few weeks later), over Woodhead and down into Glossop visiting GMRT before the long grind up Chunal. A fast descent into Hayfield for cake at KMRT before yet another uphill section to BMRT at Dove Holes. Back on ourselves and over to Edale’s base over in Hope (hope they have the kettle on). Then the longest stretch of all, from Hope we ride down to Hathersage, turn right and head over to Chatsworth. Carry on through Matlock and down the main road to Drum Hill Scout Camp and our final destination Derby team. After that I think a good lie down might be in order, or maybe a medicinal brandy.
